Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., a fantastic restaurant
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is a restaurant dedicated to the film Forrest Gump. Is it possible to forget the endearing friend of Forrest, Benjamin Buford ‘Bubba’, whose dream is to open his own shrimp restaurant sealing an agreement with the main character of the movie? Unfortunately, and watch out for spoiler, Bubba dies in the Vietnam War without fulfilling his dream.
In real life, two businessmen decided to execute Bubba’s idea and set up a restaurant as a tribute to this film.
This way, on 1996, two years after the first release of Forrest Gump, Gail Taggart and Tim Busald opened in Monterey a restaurant based in the film, with a similar decoration and the original soundtrack played as background music. Its opening was so successful that they started opening other restaurants in other cities such as San Francisco, Las Vegas or New York. In 2010, Paramount sold its rights to the Landry’s, Inc., the group responsible of exploiting the business worldwide. Nowadays, we can find the restaurants chain Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in countries such as the United States, México, the United Kingdom, the Philippines and many more.
